Less wind for Friday

The wind advisory has now expired across the area and temperatures will fall back down into the 30s overnight. With readings in the 40s on Friday, a brilliant blue sky and less wind, it will feel quite comfortable in the afternoon. Some clouds may show up towards the end of the day. Another weather system approaches Friday night, bringing thick clouds and temperatures well above freezing all night. On Saturday, look for clouds to give way to some showers. Temperatures will be 55°F to 60°F and winds will be back out of the south. It turns dry and seasonable Sunday, with plenty of sunshine.

Happy Meteorological Winter!

Your calendar may say the season starts Dec. 21st, which is called Astronomical Winter, but for meterologists and climatologists, Dec. 1st marks the beginning of Meteorological Winter — the coldest three months of the year in the Northern Hemisphere.

NOAA uses these climatological seasons to make record-keeping more meaningful. Astronomical seasons change from year to year as they’re based on sun angles and solstices and equinoxes can fall on different dates. But, meteorological seasons stick to calendar months each year.

Dec. 1st is usually when winter-like weather starts as well, so bundle up! And if you’re in a snowy area, stay tuned for forecasts of any possible snowy systems.
